North Shore Cricket Club was established in 1864 in Auckland city. The club was founded by military and civil officers who brought the love of cricket from England. After forming the club they played their first recorded inter-city game in 1867 against Blackstone Cricket club. Due to some climate issues the club had stop playing until 1870.
Club playing facilities to Players:
Club has their own ground on which they play matches and conduct their practice sessions. Devonport Domain is one of the most attractive cricket ground in the country. Club also have senior grade artificial pitch, few additional artificial wickets at Stanley Bay Park, One more wicket at Takapuna Grammar School and two at Belmont Intermediate School.
Practice Facilities :
Club has fixed three lane fixed practice nets (Concrete pad) suitable for all grades. Club also provides changing rooms to the teams which covers showers and toilet facilities. Club has one of the most attractive club house in Auckland, it includes a large lounge etc.
Cricket for junior and senior teams:
North Shore Cricket Club manages cricket for Primary, Intermediate and Secondary school children. The club had over 35 junior teams in the year 2009/10. North Shore Cricket Club provide quality coaching to the players and also conduct development courses for the improvement of Junior and senior grade players.
Club have fielded 10 senior grade men’s team in 2009/10 season. Club also promotes the game to the girls and women to the schools and community. Club also hold twilight cricket during the season for Saturday playing socials teams. Currently the club has 8 senior teams.
Club also helps in development of the cricket by providing the coaching resources to the Takapura Grammar schools in order to increase the level and standard of the cricket in the school.
Club has produced so many national and first class players for men’s and women’s both. I have list down few name of the players that once represented North Shore Cricket Club before getting selected in respective teams.
- Danny Morrison: He had represented New Zealand national team and have played Test, ODI and first class matches for New Zealand.
- Vaughan Brown: New Zealand Former National player who have played ODI, Test and First Class matches for New Zealand
